The Kano State Government has dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
Announcing Monday’s removal of the emir to reporters at Kano Government House, State Secretary Alhaji Usman Alhaji said, “Kano State Executive Council under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje unanimously approved the immediate removal / dethronement of Kano Emirate Muhammad Sanusi II emir.
It has been said that the Emir of Kano is in complete disrespect of the lawful orders given by the Office of the Governor of the State and other lawful authorities, including his repeated failure to attend official meetings and programs organized by the Government without any legitimate justification which would constitute total insubordination.
It is documented and in so many instances that Malam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found violating part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirates Law 2019, which will ruin the good and developed reputation of the Kano Emirates if left unchecked.
This removal is effected after due consultation with the appropriate stakeholders in accordance with Part 3 Section 13 of the 2019 Kano State Emirate Law and other reasons listed above.
The removal was done in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, faith and dignity established over a thousand years of the Kano Emirate.
His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR is calling on the general public to remain calm, abide by law and conduct their normal business. While soon a new Kano Emirate emir will be appointed.
