Gov. Abiodun on E-learning in Ogun state :Students to get free data

Ogun Government partners with providers of telecommunications services to provide students with free internet access for e-learning in the state’s public secondary and primary schools.
This was revealed by Gov. Dapo Abiodun at the 2020 International Student Day, held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, on Monday.
The governor said free data would allow students to access learning materials, such as digital textbooks, audio textbooks, etc.

NAN notes that the state government launched a wireless class for primary and secondary school students during the COVID-19 lockdown to facilitate learning during their stay at home.

The governor, who spoke to Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, said that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic had made it necessary for virtual learning to be adopted.

The governor said even when they were not in school, the deployment of smart phones and tablets for e-learning, combined with the provision of free data, would go a long way in helping students learn.
The new teaching approach, assisted by technology, would raise the quality of education and also increase the enrollment of students in schools, Abiodun added.
“We launched the Ogun digital class during the lockout, when it was not possible for us to come to school.
To the point that more and more students will be able to benefit from it, what we are doing now is to build on it.
“We are working on a program to get support from telecommunications companies so that students can have free data to access digital materials,” he said.

Speaking on the theme of the celebration: “Harnessing The Articulacy and Vibrancy of Nigeria Student Leaders for Larger Politics”, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Adeyemi Azeez, said this year’s celebration was to channel the potentials of the students into the larger polity.
Adeyemi observed that the present administration led by Gov. Abiodun had developed a very good relationship with the students and accepted students as partners in development.
He added that the celebration was to tutor the students and train them for future responsibilities and build on the strong legacies laid by the forebearers.
